Community Building & Experience

I am one of the presenters/conversation starters at BIGWIGs Social Software Showcase at the American Library Association’s annual conference (ALA2008). What is the Social Software Showcase, you ask? From the website: “The general idea for the BIGWIG Showcase is to highlight up-to-date technological innovations for libraries, while giving as broad an access as possible to the content and the presenters.”

Screencast Description: Engaging your librarys local community is NOT an easy task. Engaging your librarys local DIGITAL community is even harder. This presentation introduces the concept of the experience economy and mashes that up with digital community participation and engagement. Whats that get you? A headache! No, wait thats the wrong answer. It REALLY gets you Community Experience, aka the Conversation Economy.

Enjoy!

New Song and Video: Social Digital Global Shift

YouTube version | MP3

I recorded a new song and video for y’all! This song is all about social networking and how people are using the emerging social web to connect with each other, to communicate… and in my case, to sing songs to my blog readers.

When writing the song, I was thinking about facebook, twitter, MySpace, and all the social connections that are happening 24/7 - I find it extremely fascinating.

Social Digital Global Shift
by David Lee King

I haven’t seen her since high school
never thought I’d see her again
but yesterday I got a facebook request
she asked to be my friend

so I took a little time to catch up
browsed through her photobucket and blog
I watched some funny videos of her kids
and then I wrote this song

’cause it’s a social digital revolution
social digital relationship
social digital communication
it’s a social digital global shift

I have friends around the world
they’re growing globally
some of them live in Saskatchewan
while others live in D.C.

Enjoy!

Song and Video About Blogging

I wrote a song and made a video about blogging and web 2.0! Here are the links:

Here’s what I did: Music (written and played by me) recorded using GarageBand, then edited in Sony SoundForge and in Audacity; video created with Windows Movie Maker, then dropped into Quicktime Pro for transfer to .mov format.

And of course, since my singing is most likely incoherent to some, the lyrics, in all their danged glory, are included below. Enjoy!
