I just followed through on my threat and updated my blog. So I’m now using WordPress 2.2, and I’m now using widgets (way cool easy way to move stuff around in my two sidebars). And I have a new visual design (thanks to a WordPress theme this time).
I’ve been wanting to move to two sidebars for awhile now, so this was the perfect opportunity. This allows me to easily display things like recent flickr photos, recent videoblog posts, recent comments and posts, etc., etc., etc. – basically whatever I want!
I’m toying around with Google’s adsense, too. Just in my sidebar – not anywhere else (certainly not within blog posts!).
So – let me know if anything suddenly seems extremely odd (with the blog – not with me :-), and don’t be surprised if I continue to make updates (cause I most likely will).
Thanks for reading!
Nice… 8)
(Although AdSense suxx for me – for some mysterious reasons: )
But the new theme rocks!
Cheers, Adam
It does look odd with Opera (9.02).

Nice, though Adsense is pushing your goodies way down , and I can’t read the line above “Recent Photos.” Which theme is this?

Karen – Yeah, I’m still playing with the look of the adsense stuff. I’ve noticed that they sometimes don’t load up properly, so it looks like a line of text is “hiding.” My guess is that’s what you’re not seeing.
And I figure with my “goodies” (I like that term!), you know how to find them… but people visiting my blog for the first time don’t necessarily… we’ll see.
Good points, though!

Helge – yikes! I haven’t checked Opera or my Mac yet. I’ll definitely get on it! Gee… for that matter, I don’t think I even checked IE yet.
Bad web guy… bad, bad web guy 🙂

Aw, shoot – I just took a peek in IE. It’s bad (IE 6, anyway). I’ll have to mess with the columns, and re-remember those CSS IE hacks.
If someone wants to, please shoot me some pointers – I’d certainly appreciate it!

It’s a holiday. You can do weird things with your site, we’re all outside. 🙂
What “popular posts” plugin are you using?
I do like this theme–great that you found one you could on the one hand personalize and yet it’s still relatively plug and play.

Popular Posts plugin… it’s manual! Just a blank text-box widget and taking a peek at google analytics.
And – I think I know the solution to my IE problem. I think the theme author updated the theme via his blog, but not on the wordpress themes site… so I’ll download the newest one tomorrow and see if that fixes stuff for IE.
Fun, fun, fun!

IE is fixed now – I was being slightly too techie in the custom widgets I’d made… so it was all my fault!

It also works fine on Opera and on the Mac version of Firefox – so I think I’m all back to normal again. Whew!

I love the new theme, but when I look at it in firefox on my mac, the text of your entry is aligned all the way against the left side of the browser window…I guess what I’m trying to say is that there’s no white-space separating the text from the edge of the browser. Could you put a buffer in? It doesn’t matter so much when I read it in RSS, but it’s hard on the eyes when I visit the site.
Nice job though!

Kathleen – thanks for sharing! Any other Mac users having issues?
I checked Firefox on my Mac, and it doesn’t do what you describe. But… the design is centered, and based on a more modern resolution setting – maybe my site is too wide for your usual Firefox window? If I shrink mine down (smaller than 960px wide), I get the horizontal scroll bar, and then the left side content DOES get pushed to the edge of the window.
That also happens on Windows PCs…
