I was just named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker for 2008 – how cool is that!??! For those that are interested, here are some links to the Movers & Shakers lists:
- My write-up (
I hope they correct my name soon – in the subheading, they smushed my middle and last names together so it reads “David LeeKing” š– now fixed – thanks, LJ!) - Library Journal’s list for 2008
- Jessamyn’s better list for 2008
- A list of all Movers & Shakers – I’m in some good company
These things are awarded because some of you took the time to fill out the form and suggest me. That means a lot – THANK YOU SO MUCH! You guys – my friends, colleagues, readers, commenters, listeners, etc – really help push me and the ideas that stick in my head. When I write something stupid, you tell me. When I write something interesting, you build upon it. I find it amazing what some of us librarians and internet/information professionals can do… together.
Consider this award yours, too!
Congratulations! Well deserved! You should be proud.

You are a mover and shaker? You? Really? That’s the best they could do? Really? Man you have a bunch of people fooled, and good for you. You are making more money than those of us who actually know our stuff. But honestly, all you are really doing is hurting librarianship by spitting out useless platitudes. If you are shaking up the world of librarianship, than libraries are truly dead.

To Yeah Right – You have apparently never heard of outgoing IP addresses, log files, and timestamps? No matter. Come chat with me – I have an open door policy, if you have a beef with me.
To others who read my blog comments: “Yeah Right” worked the evening shift at my library tonight, and is displaying some major passive-aggressive behavior. We have a history of that (as do many other libraries, unfortunately). Don’t let this happen to you! Take your beef to the actual person, rather than attempt anonymity. It’s much more difficult, but is really much better in the whole scope of things.

You haven’t really “made it” in the public eye until you have some haters and cyberstalkers. Congrats! You are big time now. š

Hey David, a big congrats! As I mentioned to Ms. Eyre, I wasn’t all that excited one way or the other about the whole deal. Then I saw you’re name on the list (along with Michelle B’s Caleb’s, and David Rothman’s) and I thought, “hot damn!” My indifference quickly turned to pride (and a bit of “who, me?” at being in the same issue with all y’all.
Keep on rockin’

David,
Congratulations! We’re all very proud of you here at TSCPL, one colleague’s inappropriate comments not withstanding. You’re raising the profile of our library and the Kansas library community and that’s much appreciated. Keep it up! Gina Millsap, Executive Director, TSCPL
Peter – I thought the same thing… “look at all these cool, busy, innovative people my name is listed with – coolness!”
