Have you heard about Google Jamboard? I hadn’t, until we started working with Imagemakers, our web vendor, last year. Imagemakers is redesigning my library’s website (look for some future blog posts about that!).
In a normal world, Imagemakers would have started off with some brainstorming sessions, and used a wall and a bunch of sticky notes.
But we were all WFH. So instead, they used Google Jamboards. Which basically does the same thing – a wall and sticky notes – just a web-based version of that.
And it worked great!
If you have a Google account, go to jamboard.google.com. Google offers a full-blown “Jamboard” package that includes the free web app and a $5000 55″ 4K touchscreen digital display. But the free web app works great as a stand-alone product.
So, what is it again? Basically, with Jamboard, you start on a blank (digital) whiteboard. Then, you can add things to the whiteboard, including:
- sticky notes of different colors (you can write on the sticky notes)
- Draw with a pen, marker, highlighter or brush
- Erase
- Add an image
- draw different shapes
- Insert a text box
- Use a laser pointer that can draw shapes that disappear after about 5 seconds
Like I said, we used it as a whiteboard and sticky notes, and it worked great as a planning tool, especially over Zoom. The image included with this blog post shows an example of one of our early brainstorming sessions.
Anyway … want a virtual sticky note whiteboard that’s saved to the cloud and works great in-person or online? A “sorta-kinda” mind mapping tool?
Try Jamboard – just might work for you!
